New Student Provincial Competition
Young pianists throughout New Brunswick will have a new opportunity to compete for cash prizes in February 2008. This will be roughly patterned after the successful model of the National Association of Teachers of Singing. It is designed to be an informal, friendly competition. Teachers entering students will also serve as adjudicators. The competition is limited to students currently studying with teachers who are members of
NBRMTA. The plan is to alternate competition locations and disciplines. The 2008 competition will be for pianists. In alternate years the instrumentalists will have their chance to compete.
The competition will consist of 4 Divisions (all levels coincide with RCM grades):
Division 1: Grades 3, 4, and 5
Division 2: Grades 6, 7, and 8
Division 3: Grades 9 and 10
Division 4: ARCT
Each student will play two contrasting selections (memory strongly recommended).
Divisions 1 and 2 have a maximum time limit of 15 minutes. The entry fee is $25
Divisions 3 and 4 have a maximum time limit of 30 minutes. The entry fee is $40

This is a great chance for you and your students to hear piano performances from all parts of New Brunswick. The public is cordially invited to attend all performances and enjoy a wide variety of piano music, in an atmosphere of friendly competition and an exchange of musical ideas.
